Education

Educational Program Activities

Gopalnagar Shuvayan reached basic support to start coaching institutions & informal setups across 10 villages. Especially more than 100 school Kits were reached out to children. All of the Gopalnagar Shuvayan programs are designed to achieve the broad goal of universal pre primary, primary, and secondary education. All our models are below cost so that they can be implemented anywhere and scaled up to achieve large-scale impact. We believe that solutions to fill the gaps in the education system should be available even in the remotest and most backward parts of the state. This led us to expand our work even to the most educationally backward regions of the Purulia District of West Bengal. Gopalnagar Shuvayan's focus over the last academic year was on programs for improving English and Math skills among children. During the training, they overcame their initial shyness to make efforts to speak and promised to use English in the Classrooms as well for Primary and secondary students.

Math’s Classes for IX, X, XI

Gopalnagar Shuvayan trained resource person Shadab Ahmed, a competent mathematics teacher, who has imparted the training effectively. The Mathematics Program of Gopalnagar Shuvayan aims to improve mathematics competencies among secondary and senior secondary students through innovative teaching pedagogy, helping them succeed in board examinations as well as competitive examinations. Due to a lack of proper knowledge and techniques, students from rural areas often fail to crack entrance examinations. To address this issue, three educational coaching centers have been established in Kadlagora, Jitujuri, and Sindurpur villages of Purulia district. Gopalnagar Shuvayan started these centers last year with the objective of bringing students from remote villages into the mainstream of education and improving their academic performance. Student learning is assessed regularly through weekly tests. Those who achieve the highest level of performance are integrated into mainstream education, while a fresh batch of academically underperforming students is admitted to the centers. The coaching center at Sindurpur village in Purulia district has completed its first batch successfully and has been running exceptionally well. Another batch of 35 students has already registered for the next course.

Youth

Awareness Program on Alcohol De-Addiction Activities

Gopalnagar Shuvayan organized an awareness program in Village Sahardal, Block Jamtara, and District Jamtara by a Team Of Doctors & Social Workers. In the program, our team explained the threat of alcohol and drugs. In school-aged children, alcohol, and other drug education programs are usually focused on developing resilience and good decision-making skills. Some strategies also target parents to role model responsible drinking behaviors and guide parents on how to talk to their children about the dangers of alcohol and drugs.

Children Camp

Children Educational Camp Activities

Gopalnagar Shuvayan organized Children’s Camps during the summer holidays in May. These camps were conducted in the villages of Pialsola, Ladhna, Bewa, and Amoi under Jamtara Block in Jamtara district. Gopalnagar Shuvayan conducted 10 camps across these villages, with the participation of 549 children. These camps were unique educational events for the rural communities. They brought hope and awareness among villagers and created opportunities for children and parents to engage in meaningful learning activities. The objectives of the Children’s Camps were manifold: to sustain children’s interest in learning, provide them with educational opportunities and space to explore their talents, and create awareness among parents regarding their children’s education and development. Each camp was conducted over a period of three days and served as a multi-purpose, inclusive, and enriching event for both children and adults. People from different walks of life participated in the programs, including farmers, fruit sellers, traders, housewives, local leaders, Gram Panchayat representatives, school headmasters, teachers, professionals, and education officials. The camps featured community meetings and discussions, motivational talks, talent shows, theatre performances by children, music, art, and dance programs. Every activity carried a strong message emphasizing the importance of education. Under the guidance of our teams, children performed skits depicting themes such as the success of educated children, the struggles faced by uneducated individuals, and the ill-treatment and discrimination against the girl child.

Vocational & Skill Development Programs

Since 2016, Gopalnagar Shuvayan has collaborated with two vocational training centers located in the underprivileged areas of Manbazar and Gopalnagar to bridge the gap in access to quality vocational education for the rural poor. Importantly, Gopalnagar Shuvayan also provides policymakers with effective practices and guidelines to encourage the participation of underprivileged girls in technical and vocational education. The vocational programs are open to girls aged 14 years and above. In 2019, the youth development program connected a total of 113 girls to diverse, market-relevant courses.
